There is a small parking area off of Spray Lakes Road across from Spurling Creek about 20+km
from Canmore. Follow the trail on the left side of a significant drainage that leads to West Wind
Pass. Turn left off of the trail well before the pass and hop onto the backside of Rimwall. Stay to
the right as you crest out onto a long ridge. This ridge is windy, the kind that pins you down (the
summit offers you a reprieve). Traverse over to Rimwall summit to the west. You have several
rock bands to climb. The larger one is best ascended on the edge, even though there is some
exposure here. There is a summit register.
Two hours from parking to summit here. The decent can do without having to retrace all of your
steps. Just angle SE back to the tree line and stay left of a large wash out gully. Enjoy a great
view to the east of Wind Tower, Wind Mountain, Mount Lougheed and Mount Allen. Mount
Douglas looked great from a distance as always. Astor and Goat are immediately south.
Several rockbands, but this has to
be the crux. Be careful, particulary
with the wind.
