Mountain of the Sun, Scramble, Zion National Park, October,  2005

Mountain of the Sun has two easy routes to the summit, a 5.8 alpine style climb and
a scramble up the east face which is a lot of fun.  I recommend this one for you
scrambler types.   Courtney over at Summitpost has already put up a
fantastic route
description for the scramble.   Of course the rap into Zion Canyon is the classic way
to finish this route off.

Notes:  Family (read wife and dog) went as far as the end of the canyon with me. I
had planned a solo rappel descent behind Zion Lodge, but enjoyed the family outing
instead. We started off with a Desert Big Horn, ever bit as large as our Canadian Big
Horns, but much shier and saw a large owl in the canyon and a tarantula on descent
(photo added). Also two sheep carcasses, bedded down by a cat do doubt, in the
canyon (photo added). I ascended and descended different routes at the finish. Saw
a rap station near the summit, but no need for it. Cheers
